SOLAR PANEL CLEANING

PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT

Solar panel cleaning is an important part of an energy efficient solar installation.

Build up of dust, dirt, and bird faeces can lead to more than 25% of the output of your panels being lost!

A necessary part of any solar installation is regular cleaning of the panels.

At FDT, we not only install panels, but we also clean and maintain them.

We now have a full Reverse Osmosis purification system installed so that your panels are cleaned with the purest water,

leaving streak free glass panels after we're finished.

A high pressure washer with rotating soft bristle brush is all that is needed to give them a proper clean, removing all the dust and dirt, first with tap water, and then giving them a rinse in our RO water to leave them perfectly clean.

We take photo's before and after we clean so that you can see the difference.

We also do a visual inspection of the condition of the panels and connections while we are on the roof.

A new addition to our checks carried out while on the roof is thermal imaging of the panels. Hot spots caused by dirt

build up can cause irreversible damage to solar panels, and our imager can detect these before they become

a big problem.

Any issues that we find will be brought to our clients attention.

We will only do any repairs to the installation at our clients request as there may be warranties in place for any repair

work that needs to be carried out.

An average visit will usually take around 1 - 1.5h for a 12-16 panel solar array.

All that we require from our clients is connection to the mains water garden tap for the initial wash, and

a power point to plug the washer into.

We have 20m of hosepipe to connect the tap to the pressure washer and 2x 25l RO water tanks with which to

rinse off the panels afterwards.

If additional RO water is required, we have a backup 180l tank in the back of our service vehicle.

We have 2x 6m telescopic extension ladders which can be used to access the roof externally.

As registered electricians and solar installers, it makes sense for us to take care of your panels once they are installed.

You will have spent a lot of money on your investment and it is important to keep them clean to maximise your

solar yield and also to eliminate hot spots developing due to dirt build up which can damage the panels and

shorten their life span.

Most suppliers will want to see that the panels have been maintained in order for a warranty claim to be upheld.

The 1st reading was taken at roughly 1pm on a clear sunny day.

The 2nd reading was taken 2 days later at the same time with a break in the clouds providing a clear sunny sky.

This is my own installation.

The system was installed in June 2022 and cleaning had not been done until August 2023.

This is a massive 34% increase in realised output from the solar array just by cleaning the panels.

The panels were pretty dirty when we cleaned them.
